Welcome to Costa Rica! A destination where every corner turns into an unexpected detour worth taking. It always surprises us how a country of this size has so much to offer. It is home to some of the most too-good-to-be-true places, and somehow none of the pictures you see online do their beauty justice. You simply have to experience the allure of Costa Rica in person and step into its incredible realm. Also, you know how they like to say that visiting some mesmerizing places can affect your life in unimaginable ways? Well, allow us to take you to the Blue Zone of Costa Rica, a destination that has managed to change our perception of what human life looks like: the Nicoya Peninsula. Here, you can forget about all the rules of the modern way of living, leave all the stress behind, ride a wave, and finally, take pleasure in much-needed serenity.
The time has finally come to start planning your dream vacation and ensure that every moment you spend in Costa Rica is worth remembering. That is why we would like to remind you that buying a plane ticket and booking accommodation are not enough. You need to find the most efficient way to check all the places on your itinerary list and, most importantly, reach them effortlessly. So, allow us to present Costa Rica Horizon, your trustworthy partner that will help you bring your plans to life. At one place, you can check out the plethora of unique tours and activities, and in one place, discover all the things you can do across the country.
When planning their trip to Costa Rica, many start by putting some of the most obvious places on their itinerary. Surely, don’t get us wrong. We firmly believe that going to La Fortuna, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, Tortuguero National Park, and San José is worth it. These are iconic spots for a reason, and no visit to Costa Rica is complete without heading over to at least a few of them.
Still, we think that the real distinctive experience lies in venturing to some maybe less-known and definitely less-crowded places. Nicoya Peninsula jewels such as Tamarindo and Santa Teresa are definitely our favorite ones, and their charm is not possible to describe by simply using words. It is something that everyone should experience firsthand.
These boho-chic surf towns are a definition of tranquility, so it comes as no surprise that people here live up to remarkably long lives, often well into their 80s and 90s. Whenever we see a video of these towns, we instantly have an urge to pack our bags, leave everything behind, teleport ourselves instantly to one of their beaches, and put our surfboards into action. But, yes, there is one big catch. Sadly, things are not always so easy, at least when it comes to transportation in this part of Costa Rica. So, instead of telling you how wonderful these towns are, and trust us, they are, we would like to help you reach them without the problems that some other inexperienced travelers may encounter along the way.
We don’t want to sugarcoat anything, and we assure you that your trip to Costa Rica can be perfect just like that. We value honesty, and we would have liked to have this information the first time we visited this country, since it would have saved us a lot of trouble. So, in case you are planning to center your entire journey around the Nicoya Peninsula and its bohemian towns, here is what you need to know in advance.
Depending on the route, the trip from Tamarindo to Santa Teresa covers somewhere between 150 and 200 kilometres, so you may spend anywhere from 4 to 5 hours in the vehicle. And we know what you may be thinking, well, that is not too bad. But there is a big catch. In general, roads in Costa Rica can get extremely unpredictable, and you may end up dealing with everything from nicely paved roads and unpaved sections to real potholes and steep climbs. Also, depending on the time of the year you are coming, these conditions can become even more daunting, and in some sections, even extremely terrifying. Of course, we are not saying all of this to scare you, but to help you have clear expectations.
So, if it is your first time coming to this part of Costa Rica, or the country in general, we have one important piece of advice for you. Secure personalized private transportation on time, and put your trust in a driver who takes this route regularly. Not only are you investing in the maximum safety and comfort of everyone on board, but you are also allowing yourself to turn hours-long drives to your advantage. Along the way, you will be able to take pleasure in some natural wonders you would otherwise miss if you had to stare at navigation all the time and worry about what awaits around the corner. Also, you will be able to make as many stops as you wish and spend some time at Playa Conchal, Las Catalinas, Nicoya Town, Playa Samara, or Playa Carrillo. With this kind of service, the world is your oyster, or better said, Costa Rica is your oyster, and the perks that it provides are beyond what most travelers expect when they first look at a map—because in Costa Rica, distance isn’t measured in kilometers, but in the detours you didn’t plan to take.
Not so long ago, we couldn’t imagine turning the time we spend on the road into moments of pure bliss, even in fantastical places that are the epitome of great beauty.
